The Conference House Museum in a Box
Gr. 4-8 Fall Project: Colonial Handwriting with a Quill Pen
A goose feather quill pen and powdered ink were the basic writing instruments in the 18th century. There were no computers, no pencils or ballpoint pens to write with in those days!
Practice writing the alphabet with a quill pen and learn how to sign your name on a document using a
quill pen just like Benjamin Franklin did in 1776 on the Declaration of Independence.
Teachers: Free quill pen writing kit will be provided for each student.

My 7th grade class and I had a wonderful and fulfilling trip to The Conference House. Our tour was well thought out and informative. The grounds are stunning and thriving with so much history to be learned and appreciated. Thank you for your time and care in preserving such an important milestone in our history. We will certainly be back!
